Vallarta is one of the favorite destinations in Mexico and the world, so every vacation period, thousands of tourists from all over come to enjoy this jewel of the Mexican Pacific.

If congested beaches and the vacation disorder of large crowds are not your thing, check out the following destinations that are somewhat far from the beaches of Vallarta, and that stand out for their beauty.

1. Colomitos

This is considered the smallest beach in Mexico, and one of the most beautiful. It can be reached through the “pangas”, boats that leave from Vallarta or Boca de Tomatlán, or by walking through a leafy path that starts from the last mentioned beach. As the popularity of Colomitos has grown over the years, it is advisable to arrive early.

2. Horse Beach

The same mountain path that crosses the coast will take you here, Playa Caballo. It is a large strip of white sand and crystalline waters, before Las Ánimas. It can be reached on foot or by boat, and camping is available.

3. Quimixto

It is one of the remote beaches of Vallarta that can only be reached by boat. Quimixto is a quiet beach, and has several inland waterfalls. These can be reached on foot or by renting horses that go into the jungle.

4. Palo Maria Waterfall

If you like adventure and hiking, the Palo María waterfall is the ideal option. To get to this Puerto Vallarta waterfall, take the orange bus downtown, and get off at Puente Palo María, or hop off the side of the road, and follow the river up. You will find fresh, crystalline water, and a different option to the traditional in Vallarta.

5. Yelapa

It is one of the most distant beaches, and most loved. It can only be reached by panga. In Yelapa you will find a pristine sea, a quiet town among the vegetation, and various waterfalls that crown its charm.
